About me

Hello! My name is Maya Angela de Alba (she/her) and I am an illustrator currently based in Atlanta, Georgia. As a huge bookworm and a lover of anything fantastical, I seek to illustrate work that evokes emotions, showcases the beauty of storytelling, and sparks the imagination of my viewers. Through my illustration I hope to not simply create, but to inspire.

Currently, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Savannah College of Art and Design, set to graduate by May of 2027. I am seeking opportunities in publishing and surface design.

My Story

Born and raised in Manila, Philippines, I grew up with an immeasurable passion for the arts, surrounded by the vibrant Filipino culture of Kapwa (community) and Pakikisama (fellowship). Art is my first love. Making art was all I ever knew to do, from the moment my fingers first touched a paintbrush or my toes stepped into my first pair of ballet slippers. Ever since then, the arts became my world, my oyster. However as I came from  a very traditional and conservative society, I was always steered towards a different direction when I'd say that I wanted continue on with my passion for art.

Because of that I never thought that I would be able to pursue an education in art, much less a career. My parents are the ones who truly supported me and encouraged me to follow my dreams and go to art school. So I took a big leap of faith, moved halfway across the world at 18 and now I’m here! I wouldn't be where I am today without my parents, and I owe all my success to them. Ever since starting my education at SCAD I've found my place among other creatives, finally able to be my true self not only as an artist but as a person as well.

I've always thought that for artists their art is their voice, their message to the world. I've found that art is how I express myself and my loud mind. Through my art I hope to be an inspiration the youth, especially to all the other artists back at home in the Philippines. I want everyone to know that you don't have to give up or sacrifice your dreams as a creative just because society dictates so. Nothing in life comes easy, but with true passion and hard work you can become anything; even an artist, especially an artist.
